Chalice Well Buckle (large)

MADE IN CORNWALL, ENGLAND.
Pewter buckle, suitable for a 40mm belt is inspired by the Chalice Well, nestling in the Vale of Avalon between the famous Glastonbury Tor and Chalice Hill, Somerset, England.

This is a sacred place where people have travelled to for over two thousand years to drink the waters.

The beautiful cover consists of two interlocking circles the symbol known as the Vesica Piscis. In the well lid design, a spear or a sword bisects these two circles, a possible reference to Excalibur, the sword of the legendary King Arthur, believed by some to be buried at the nearby  Glastonbury Abbey.

Recycled copper and Cornish tin are used to make this collection of bronze jewellery that is strong, very hard but looks like gold.

Below the maker tells us a little about the product and process.

Pewter is a malleable metal made of tin, copper and antimony. It melts at around 260 degrees Celsius and can be cast into vulcanised rubber moulds which only deteriorate slowly over many casts.

We cast our jewellery and gifts using this method and then painstakingly go through a fettling process to remove any surplus material and casting lines.
Each piece is polished and any findings or gemstones are fitted before packing. The whole operation is very labour intensive requiring skills that take many years to perfect. Due to the process it is highly unlikely that two pieces will be exactly the same even though to the untrained eye they may appear so.

Our staff take great pride in their work and are open to suggestions that may improve quality even further.

Each piece of our jewellery and giftware is crafted by hand and eye in Cornwall, the South West extremity of Britain. This wild and beautiful land was home to the many native Celts who were driven away from the temperate midlands of Britain by invading European warriors, such as the Angles of Northern Germany. It is in places such as Cornwall, Wales, Ireland and Scotland that the art of the Celts and ancient Britons has survived, carved into stone tombs and discovered on pottery fragments and ornaments.
